You’ve been here before — in the bathroom. In fact, you were here 15 minutes ago. You know you have a urinary tract infection (UTI). Frequent urge to go, burning when you go, and pain. Ugh.
40% of women will have at least one UTI in their lifetime. What should you do if you think you have one?
You should be seen by an in-person doctor (urgent care or primary doctor’s office) if:
- You're a male (of any age).
- You're a female under the age of 18.
- You've had 3 UTIs in the last 12 months and haven't yet seen a doctor.
- You have a history of kidney stones.
- You have flank (kidney) pain.
For the vast majority of those who occasionally suffer, you can skip the cost and hassle of going somewhere to be seen in-person and call a doctor instead.
If you’ve got a UTI, going to the ER may cost you. Debt.org found the average cost of care for a UTI in an ER setting was nearly $700. With First Stop Health, the cost is predictably smaller. Employers cover the cost of our service (usually 100%, but at times employees pay a small visit fee, disclosed during intake).
So if you have that frequent urge to go, sit back, pick up the phone, and call First Stop Health instead.
